Tony Campolo!

hat tip -- Aaron at the ArmyBarmy blog

“If you ignore what the Bible is really about, helping poor and oppressed people, you’ve missed the message of Jesus…. To be Christian is to commit to the poor, to the oppressed. The only description that Jesus gives of Judgment Day, is how we treated the poor. On that day, He’s not going to ask you theological questions…. Here’s what it’s gonna be: 25th chapter of Matthew … ‘what you fail to do to the last of these, you fail to do it unto Me … as you relate to people who hurt, you’re relating to Me.’ There is no Christianity that does not tie us up with the poor and oppressed of the world…. To be Christian is to reach out to people who hurt…. Until we start living the way Jesus has called us to live, we ought not to call ourselves followers of Jesus.”
