Fire and lightning - powerful forces under their own control, bringing strength beyond what we are able to conjure or control. To consider the weapons needed to protect spiritual hearts against the powers of darkness - of sin, of depression, of hoplessness and despair - only God can provide the help. We are unable to do it ourselves, but need to ask God to bring that power, those weapons, those defenses to help, to save and protect.
L'Engle's stanzas always carry vivid pictures of the mind when describing details and situations - explosions, war fronts, colors.
